Jim Nicholson MEP

Jim Nicholson MEP has represented the people of Northern Ireland in the European Parliament since 1989 and is consequently one of its longest serving members. In addition to his legislative portfolio which concentrates on agriculture and the environment, Jim has held some key positions which most recently include Chairperson of the Delegation for relations with the United States (2002-2004) and Quaestor during the previous parliamentary mandate. He is currently serving as 5th Vice-Chairperson of the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly promoting human rights and democracy in African, Caribbean and Pacific countries.

Speaking in support of the campaign the Conservatives and Unionists MEP for Northern Ireland said, "Racism is innately wrong and a blight on our community. As an MEP, I spend every day working with people from across the 27 Member States and beyond – people of different races, ethnicities and religions working together for the common good.

Raising awareness and championing the sterling campaign  ‘Racism is Wrong’ is one of the ways we can effect positive change and create a Northern Ireland of which we wish to be a part and a shared society of which we can all be proud.

"I welcome the opportunity to become a champion against racism and help raise the profile of this worthy campaign. I believe that Northern Ireland has a bright future ahead if we work together to build a society which is inclusive, cohesive and respectful."
