Launching to coincide with Race Equality Month. Hosted by Pamela Ballantine.
There is a growing body of research and literature on the experiences of Black and Minority Ethnic communities in Northern Ireland and in particular within the Southern cluster area. Research has shown that BME communities (settled, migrant workers and Travellers) experience a range of issues; and barriers exist such as language, the lack of appropriate information, the lack of knowledge of rights and entitlements, isolation, abuse of employment rights, difficulties accessing services, harassment, prejudice and racism.
The Peace III Southern Partnership, which includes the cluster area of Armagh, Banbridge, Craigavon, Newry and Mourne and the border counties of Louth and Monaghan, as part of its Challenge of Change priority, are launching their Racism is Wrong Campaign, to coincide with the launch of the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland’s Race Equality Month, which will run throughout the month of November.
We would like to invite you, or a representative of your organisation to attend the launch event, the details of which are below:
Time: 09:30 am to 12:00 pm (lunch provided)
Venue: Sean Holywood Arts Centre, 1A Bank Parade, Newry, BT35 6HP
This will be a ‘Let’s Talk’ style event, facilitated by Pamela Ballantine, who is a Challenge of Change Champion. We have an excellent panel of speakers lined up, which includes local politicians, employers, trade unionists and BME representatives. You will have the opportunity to hear what they are doing to tackle racism, and to ask them questions on this. It will also be an important opportunity for you to show your support for racial equality.
